3D-Printed Joints for the Support Arm of the Therapy Device

OXXID developed the design for an electromagnetic therapy device, utilizing 3D printing in the process. 1zu1scale manufactures sturdy handles and joints for the support arm of the applicator, which weighs approximately two kilograms. Thanks to PA Black, the 18 components will now come out of the printer in the desired black color. Eliminating the need for painting also reduces the unit price.

For small-batch plastic parts ready for production, 3D printing is the ideal solution when production volumes are manageable. We specialize in these types of parts and guarantee their quality.

The Perfect Solution for Quantity and Demand

The design firm OXXID has developed an award-winning device design for a high-quality medical device. Using robust 3D-printed components, 1zu1scale provides a solution that is both lightweight and stable for the support arm of the applicator, which weighs approximately two kilograms. Eighteen original black plastic components—ranging in size from 6 to 15 centimeters—form durable handles and joints for the approximately one-meter-long movable assembly. The visible elements impress across the board—visually, haptically, and functionally.

Designed and made for 3D printing

When it came to the mounting arm for a therapy device, OXXID put two and two together: the requirements and needs were a perfect fit for 3D printing. As a reliable partner, 1zu1scale ensured on-time and on-budget production of plastic components that were immediately ready for series production. Additive manufacturing and 1zu1scale’s role as a technological pioneer will pay off even more for OXXID in the future: PA Black reduces the price per component—while maintaining consistent quality.

We speak the same language, communicate openly, and thus quickly achieve usable results. The biggest advantage is definitely 1zu1scale’s reliability. When it comes to series production, meeting deadlines and staying within budget are the most important factors. 3D printing was the best choice for us from the very beginning. 1zu1scale has enabled us to pursue agile and iterative product development.

Questions & Answers

They form the lightweight and sturdy joints and grips of a support arm for an applicator.

It holds an applicator weighing about two kilograms—which has an integrated copper coil—steadily above the patient’s body for a specific period of time.

18 components ranging in size from 6 to 15 centimeters.

The components are manufactured using Farsoon’s 4-fiber laser melting technology and the high-performance black material PA Black. This eliminates the need for post-processing coloring.

The plastic components must withstand heavy and prolonged stress.

As visible components of a premium device that come into regular contact with disinfectants, they require the highest quality and durability.

The components, designed for mass production, were immediately suitable for pilot use in everyday practice. OXXID was then able to quickly improve the design with minimal time and cost. With PA Black, 1zu1scale unlocked further cost-saving potential.
